VENDOR DEVELOPMENT

Don’t move a programme.
Start with one style.

A first development can tell you more than a broad promise. Choose a style that reveals how a prospective manufacturing partner thinks, communicates and follows through.

Garment quality evaluation

Choose a meaningful first style

Pick a style that reflects the work you expect the vendor to handle. A simple repeat tee may suit one programme; a textured polo or a coordinated set may reveal more for another.

Keep the scope manageable and state what you are evaluating. The purpose is a useful decision, not a test with hidden requirements.

Observe the questions

Listen to what the team asks before sampling. Do they clarify the customer, fit, fabric, target cost and delivery need? Do they identify missing details, or agree to every request without discussing dependencies?

The conversation should make the brief clearer. Good questions are useful evidence of how the team approaches development.

Assess the working relationship

Review the sample and the experience together. Look at how comments were recorded, how changes were communicated and whether open questions were raised while there was time to act.

  • Were commitments specific?
  • Were material substitutions made visible?
  • Was the feedback understood and carried forward?
  • Did the team explain the effect of a change?
  • Can your own team understand the next step?

Expand on evidence

A successful first sample is encouraging, but it is not proof of bulk performance. Align the production plan, quality requirements and communication responsibilities before increasing the commitment.

Build the relationship in stages, using each piece of work to decide what should come next. Both teams benefit from a clear brief and an honest assessment.

Bring this to your next range.

Evaluate the fabric, sample, communication and execution together. Let evidence determine the next commitment.
